A thief stole, altered and cashed a cheque for nearly $200,000 from Evangel Hall that should have gone to the Presbyterian Church, according to a story in the Globe and Mail.
The money was a quarterly payment to the church for covering Evangel Hall's payroll, said executive director Joseph Taylor. Evangel Hall is a Toronto inner-city mission.
Police said there is no description of the thief to release to the public, suggesting that a camera was not running or that the record was erased. The investigation is ongoing.
Taylor said the bank reimbursed Evangel Hall and the payment to the church has been made. – AM
