Goodbye for now.

Even though I am still getting used to the fact that I wake up in my bedroom at home and not a dorm room at Brock University, and am having breakfast whenever I please, I still enjoyed CY09 and look forward to CY12. I just wish it ran annually, instead of only on three year intervals and for only one week.

Although I sure am glad to be able to wake up to the sound of my cats meowing for attention and my mother just waiting for me to wake up. It is warming being home.

But I do miss everybody I met down there. I had so much fun while there. The welcoming atmosphere will not be around again for another three years. It’s like your first day at school; everybody is so welcoming, except unlike school that continues past the first day. At least I and many others keep in contact so we can update each other on the happenings around our sections of the country.

Goodbye everyone, I will always miss you guys! I will never forget any of you!

I’d like to continue to blog at CY12. So goodbye until then my friends. If you are on facebook or msn, you can add me. Dustyn Frankcom or d-frankcom_16@hotmail.com

Dustyn, out.

CY09 is done :(

Today was a sad day, but also a happy day. Sad, because everyone had to leave their newly-found friends. Happy, because they had the chance to keep in touch with them via e-mail and/or phone and/or facebook.

CY09-What some people think can be improved

I did a little bit of research today, and found that some people think that some things here at CY can be improved. Here are their thoughts:

Drew, from Calgary, thinks that the biggest improvement can be made at “the Stump”.

One of the leaders, Bob, thinks that one room at 11:00pm for meet and eat is not enough space to fit three groups into. He also says that more seating can be put in to make more people comfortable.

Mark believes that the sermons at the worship service are too much alike. He thinks that they can make them differ a little bit.

James and Matthew both think that breakfast and curfew are too early. They both think the times of both them should be extended. Also, Matthew believes that the activities at “the Stump” could be a little more suited to our ages.

This was my research. I hope it helps towards future CY events.

The excitement looks like it will never come to an end. Today, the youth and leaders participate in their first activity. Whether it be Heaven’s Kitchen or Yoga, they are bound to be in for a treat and a whole lot of fun.

As youth and leaders head from breakfast to “The Stump” for more active wake-up exercises, they all look forward to the afternoon for their activity. Some have one activity twice, some have three different activities. Whether or not the activities are all different, let us all hope that they have the time of their lives there.

Also going on today, the youth participate in session 3 of their Sequoia group. This is the one after “March of the Ents” just yesterday. After the activity that the youth have, they have yet another surprise awaiting their arrival in Sequoia for session 4.

HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE!

God be with each and every one of us on this, the first day of activities.

Today was a bit different from the first day, only because everybody has now had the chance to familiarize themselves with Brock University, but also because the groups were split into “sequoia groups,” which are small groups named after certain types of trees. A few examples of these are; Birch, Bonsai and Willow. When we were in our sequoia groups, we had the chance to get together and share a little bit about ourselves along with doing a reading or two from the Bible and learning a bit about the life of Jesus. Also, in the sequoia, the teens and leaders worked together to make a tree for the “March of the Ents” recreational event. This was a parade of trees made of cardboard boxes and streamers that were held up or worn by the group.

After lunch, we went back to our sequoia to have more learning fun.

More and more friends are being made at this event and it looks like the event will continue to be a success.

Canada Youth 2009, Day 1

Upon arrival, participants at Canada Youth had the option of taking part in “The Amazing Race.” This was a race to certain parts of the Brock University campus so that we could get to know our way around the CY09 activity areas.

Later in the day, most participants gathered in the courtyard (aka “The Stump”) for some exercises before dinner. These included singing and dancing.

Afterward, we went to the cafeteria. Most everyone was satisfied with the variety and the quality of the meal.

Before the hour long (if not longr) worship service, we could take part in some recreational fun of our choice. We could sign out some sports balls to play with, or just have fun in the sun with new and old friends.

The worship service consisted of praise and worship songs, scriptures, preaching and a very powerful powerpoint presentation, including a Coca Cola bottle!. A lot of people were satisfied with the first service of the week.

Between the end of service and curfew (11:00 p.m.), participants could do as they pleased, indoors or outdoors. But at curfew, there is a meeting for each floor of each residence for the participants to understand the rules.

It looks like everybody is making new friends and is having fun!
